Born in Mango

Famous at home and abroad

The mangoes of Gujarat are justly famous both within India from there the fruit originates historically and around the world. The state is home to both unique wonders, such as the famed ‘Walking Mango Tree’ of Sanjan Village which has reportedly travelled over 200 meters in the past two centuries, and the daily cultivation of tens of thousands of hectares of its own renowned Gir Kesar mango cultivars. These orange-pulped fruits are said to be one of the most popular mango varieties globally.

Among Gujarat’s many mango farms, the Rajmoti Farm of Dinubhai Solanki in the Kodinar region stands proud as a source of sustainably and passionately grown fruit.

Efficiency means sustainability

Dinubhai Solanki has been growing mangoes for six years but he was, in his words, “born in mango.” He’s now combining this family-derived love of farming with a commitment to using new technologies and good agricultural practices across his 20 hectares. Harvesting over 11 tonnes per hectare every single production cycle, Dinubhai’s mangoes are not only uniquely traceable, but new technologies are improving his soil levelling, analysis and management; weather forecasting; planting and water management; and product application which leads to greater efficiency from sowing to harvest.

Taken together, these approaches are making Rajmoti Farm more efficient and sustainable for Dinubhai, his family, and all the people who work with him both directly and indirectly.

For people and planet

Approaches that benefit people and the planet are at the core of our own Reimagining Sustainability mission at UPL, and we’re proud to have been working alongside Dinubhai and his team for two years to drive win-win outcomes. Our role as a reliable partner to Dinubhai’s farms involves providing a synergized and holistic ProNutiva package, combining traditional plant protection against pests and disease, with soil and foliar fertilizers, and biostimulants. These inputs allow Dinubhai to implement swift, efficient, and effective solutions to address any issues that arise – from Mango dropping to Black Spot Disease. As part of this package, we’ve also provided Rajmoti Farm with a sprayer machine and drone, which are enabling precision agriculture and reducing the costs and volumes of inputs used. Dinubhai welcomes the results these have achieved, including a 20% increase in production and 25% cost savings.

The mango of the future

When Dinubhai looks to the future, it’s mangoes he sees. It’s a future of transformation and constant improvement through technology and innovation to make a sustainable future for this 5,000 year old fruit. That’s the kind of future we’re ready to cultivate too.
